Turkish regime's "collapse" possible

Despite the triumph of the government of Recep Tayyip Erdoğan over coup plotters in Turkey, sociological expert Immanuel Wallerstein still foresees possible collapse for the AKP-led government.


"It seems unlikely that Turkey can stem a bubbling up of internal opposition, which might lead to a total collapse of the regime", Wallerstein wrote Monday 01 August 2016 in a commentary on the "rise and fall" of the Turkish president.

Wallerstein was commenting on the apparent repressive measures applied by President Erdoğan against his opponents in the wake of the failed coup. Overall, Wallerstein's analysis of the political developments in Turkey seems balanced:
"When Erdoğan says that Gülen had long plotted the coup, his arguments seem plausible. It is for this reason that all the opposition parties – CHP, NMH, and HDP (left party with a strong base in Kurdish areas) – went into the streets to oppose the coup. When, however, the CHP and HDP plus commentators in Turkey and elsewhere say that Erdoğan seemed prepared to use the excuse of the coup to purge the country of every conceivable possible opponent, these arguments also seem plausible. In particular, his proposal to change the constitution to create an “executive presidency” is considered as leading to a dictatorship."
Wallerstein's comment about the "total collapse of the regime" is based on his analysis that Turkey's two biggest strengths in international relations at present - its control of refugee flows to Europe and the critical role of its airfields to the United States and NATO - may be "illusory". The "world context" has changed, Wallerstein writes.

"Erdoğan may have overplayed his hand" considering the way his efforts to reconcile with the Kurds and Armenians and unseat Bashar al-Assad from power turned into such failures. These losses, in addition to any further hostility in relations with the EU, the United States or Russia, may still turn the tide against his regime and result in him falling from power quite rapidly.

Did Erdogan stage a coup on himself?

Views have been circulating that the coup attempt in Turkey may have been plotted by Erdogan himself to justify gaining more executive powers.


According to a post by Hussain Saqib at the Pakistan-based Voice of East magazine:

"Erdogan has had plans to rewrite country’s constitution but has not been able to do that so far... It is now written on the wall that Erdogan will swiftly move to further tighten his iron grip over the country, further gag the media and dissenting voices and clear the way for absolute power in his hands. The failed coup will strengthen the hands of president Erdogan to realize his dreams of becoming the all-powerful Sultan of Turkey.

Saqib views the coup as "unprofessional" and apparently set up to fail. The mass arrests and accusations that followed - without any official investigation being conducted - also indicate lists being prepared in advance for a political purge throughout Turkey.

WikiLeaks has been undertaking efforts to release more documents on the Erdogan government's dealings to increase civil criticism of this government, which is becoming more authoritarian. On 19 July, WikiLeaks tweeted it would release 300 internal emails of the ruling AKP party, to which Erdogan belongs.

Meanwhile, other theories exist that the coup plot was the work of hyperactive agents of Washington and NATO, who believed Erdogan was an insufficient puppet of US interests. According to this view, Erdogan's rapprochement with Russia and hopes of restoring Turkey as a more honorable and independent power resulted in the conspiracy to depose him.

'NATO failed to overthrow Erdogan'

Sources have indicated the recent coup attempt in Turkey was the work of pro-NATO generals attempting to ensure the country remains a loyal puppet of Washington.


Also, the Erdogan government's accusations against the US, which it sees as harboring anti-state cleric Fethullah Gulen, indicate a possible split by Turkey away from the US regime.

Anti-NATO sources on Twitter make this possibility quite clear.


The world was shocked on Friday by a conspiracy among Turkish military officers to overthrow Turkish democracy and seize power. The conspiracy may have included high-ranking generals in the NATO chain of command, who believed regime-change was needed in the country.

Turkey has already begun arresting those deemed to be traitors in the military, and has denied US forces access to Incirlik Airbase, where the US regime stores nuclear weapons and conducts airstrikes in the region.

Immediately prior to the coup, Turkish President Erdogan had apologized to Russian President Putin for the earlier deterioration in bilateral relations, and promised to work closely with Russia. Many believe this caused NATO military generals to become angry at the Turkish government and seek to depose Erdogan.

Anti-Assad forces losing and desperate

Different analysts are of the view that the rebel groups opposing the Bashar al-Assad government in Syria are losing the war.


The view is also supported by the foreign policy comments and behaviors of Saudi Arabia and its allies, who have backed these insurgent groups in Syria for years. Desperate threats to invade Syria with foreign national armies are the result of the proxy war's impending failure.

Syria's government responded to Saudi Arabia's aggressive posturing and threats of an invasion of Syria by promising to send any aggressor back in a "wooden coffin". Although doubting a Saudi invasion is a realistic possibility, the Syrian Foreign Minister called the Saudi leadership "crazy" and said nothing is impossible in their minds.

Throughout the conflict, countries aiming to take control of Syria have usually hidden behind the so-called political "opposition" against Bashar al-Assad, claiming they are only interested in democracy, until now. At this point,  masks seem to have dropped and various dictators are lining up to invade Syria for their own selfish interests, proving what the conflict was about all along. Such dictators include the corrupt murderer Erdogan in Turkey, who is also accused of massacring Kurds and supporting ISIL terrorists.

Earlier report: Syria "peace deal" meaningless

Dismissing the Saudi leadership as cowards who would not fulfill their promise of an invasion, an Iranian military commander noted that such an invasion would be "suicide" and Saudi Arabia will certainly be defeated if its troops try to occupy Syria. A Saudi-led coalition has already been waging an unsuccessful war to punish Yemen after a pro-Saudi ruler was driven out of the country.

During their war, the Saudis have lost many troops and failed to accomplish any of their objectives. Their own territory has even been invaded and bombarded heavily by Yemen, as the poorest country in the Middle East (Yemen) manages to humiliate the wealthiest one.

A post at Beliefnet comments on the desperation of the anti-Assad forces in Syria, noting, "Really, they just want more weapons from foreign countries, and to ask other countries to invade and reinforce them." The post was rejecting the peace talks on the grounds that they are just trying to take pressure off Western-backed terrorists and enable them to continue their massacres of the Syrian people.

Erdogan cries "treason" over interview

The Erdogan "caliphate" regime in Turkey has accused an MP of "treason" for telling the truth about Syria.


That case was opened by the Chief Prosecutor's Office against Istanbul MP Eren Erdem (Republican People's Party CHP) after he explained Turkey's role in supplying chemical weapons to terrorist groups in Syria at the Russian news network RT.

As shown in the video below, Eren Erdem told the RT network that ISIL received the needed chemicals to produce deadly sarin nerve gas via transit through Turkey. This was based on evidence from a criminal case. Erdem pointed out that there may have been a cover-up by the ruling Erdogan regime in Turkey.

The authorities had actually arrested 13 suspects for aiding ISIL in procuring chemical weapons. Erdem said the prosecution was abandoned and the suspects were allowed to cross the Turkish-Syrian border.

Erdem confirmed that Western-backed terrorist groups, not Syrian Army soldiers loyal to Bashar al-Assad as reported in Western media, carried out a chemical attack on civilians in East Ghouta in 2013. It may have been done using the weapons supplied through Turkey.



Turkey has been accused by many different powers of supporting the ISIL terrorists in Syria and Iraq. In addition, Turkey has acted aggressively and capriciously, invading Iraqi territory and shooting down a Russian warplane while it was bombing ISIL positions near Turkey.

Turkey's pro-ISIL actions have brought Turkey's Erdogan regime to the brink of war with Moscow, with Russia even massing troops against the Turkish border in Armenia, according to Fort Russ, and surrounding Turkey with anti-aircraft missiles including those of its naval cruisers.

'Punish Turkey for assisting terror': WC

A top Mont society member and newsletter editor has called for Turkey to be thrown out of the so-called NATO alliance.


Citing the recent incident when Turkish fighter planes shot down a Russian bomber aircraft while it was striking Turkish-backed terrorist targets, Wave Chronicle editor Mike Dodd described the Turkish government as idiots whose actions are beyond belief.

 Not only did the Turkish authorities take lethal action against Russian lives to protect terrorists , but Turkish-supported militiamen also broke the Geneva Convention by murdering an unarmed pilot who had parachuted from the burning aircraft before he had even landed. The Wave Chronicle recommended the RT network video, embedded once again by The clubof.info Blog below.



"It does not require a single brain cell" to realize that the Russian aircraft should not have been shot down, Dodd stated, noting a video was subsequently shown off featuring the destruction of a Russian rescue helicopter with the loss of one soldier using a US-made TOW missile. In response to this, the editor decried the use of American military hardware in supporting terrorists in Syria and condemned the so-called moderate foreign-backed opposition, stating that "the Free Syrian Army are terrorists".

US support for terrorists can be considered treasonous and someone should be on trial for this, according to the Wave Chronicle article. US weapons are being used illegally, by an illegal army, for attacks on Russia and Syria.


The Wave Chronicle editor appealed to world leaders for three steps to be taken in response to this crime. First, the US Congress should bring any Americans involved in illegally arming terrorists to trial for treason against the American people. Second, an investigation should be conducted into the illegal act and all involved should be punished with severity, "no matter who or where they are". Third, NATO needs to strike criminal regimes such as the Erdogan government off its membership lists.

Since Turkey shot down the Russian aircraft, Russia has intensified its air strikes on terrorists near the Turkish territory and has sent additional fighter planes to destroy Turkish jets if needed.
